Chandigarh 4, February: The Green Schools Awards, presented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, and the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, were held at the India Habitat Centre on February 4, 2025. Dr. Sunita Narain, the Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment, attended the ceremony. She praised the efforts of Punjab and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) and awarded Punjab with the title of ‘Best State’ and ‘Best District’ at the Green Schools Awards 2025.

Punjab Wins ‘Best State’ and ‘Best District’ at Green Schools Awards 2025
In this program, 345 schools were honored nationally, with 196 of them from Punjab. This year, under the Green School Program, a large-scale initiative was implemented in schools across Punjab by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. Various components of the program, including air, water, soil, food, waste management, and energy management, were incorporated to continuously raise awareness among students, promoting action-based work. Notable activities included large-scale plantation drives, rainwater harvesting systems, solar energy management, waste management, and student-led awareness campaigns against stubble burning.
The awards were received on behalf of the state by Er. Pritpal Singh, Executive Director, Dr. Kulbir Singh Bath, Joint Director, and Dr. Mandakini Thakur, Project Scientist (PSCST).
