Rupnagar, November 24: To adopt a healthy lifestyle, youth should include sports in their daily lifestyle and to achieve this objective, the Hawks Club has been playing an important role for nearly 50 years.
These words were expressed by Cabinet Minister Punjab Mr. Harjot Singh Bains while attending the 32nd Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival as chief guest at Hawks Stadium Rupnagar. On this occasion, he awarded Rs. 1.25 lakh to the winning hockey team of BSF and Rs. 75 thousand to the runner-up team of CRPF.
Mr. Harjot Singh Bains said that Advocate S.S.Saini General Secretary, Hawks Club has done commendable efforts to organize a national level hockey tournament in this ground. He also appreciated MD Cheema Boiler Ltd Hardeep Singh Cheema for sponsoring this tournament and providing prize money.
Sharing information about the playgrounds to promote sports in Rupnagar district, he said that a hockey astroturf ground is being constructed at Adarsh School Lodhipur at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore, a national level shooting range is being built at Sri Anandpur Sahib, an astroturf ground for football is being built at Kiratpur Sahib. Similarly, a full length indoor swimming pool is being built at Nangal and a modern swimming pool is being built at Rupnagar.
He said that a grant of Rs. 10 lakh was released to Hawks Club and if the club needs more grants, it will be released for further development.
The bands of Punjab Police Phillaur and Haryana Home Guard also added value to this festival with their melodious music performance.
It is worth mentioning that the match started with the introduction of the teams by SSP Rupnagar Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana and Cheema MD Cheema Boiler Ltd. Mr. Hardeep Singh. Former captain of the Indian hockey team, Olympian SP, Rupnagar Rajpal Singh Hundal, and Olympian and proud player Hawks Club,
DSP, Punjab Police Dharamvir Singh, RTO Gurvinder Singh Johal, Teginder Kaur Cheema, Satbir Singh Cheema, Ret. AIG Jasvir Singh, entire team of Liberal Cup Nabha, Folk singer Jass Miyapuri, Professor disrespect Shri. Makhan Singh Hakimpur and Bira Rail majra were also present.
