SSP Rupnagar Maninder Singh Named Among India’s 25 Best Police Officers.
The national list of India’s 25 Best Police Officers has been released, featuring four police officers from Punjab and one from Chandigarh for their effective police leadership and people-centric policing.
SSP Rupnagar S. Maninder Singh, IPS, has been included in the list in recognition of his commendable working style across various assignments, particularly in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, adopting sensitive policing practices, ensuring prompt action and maintaining effective communication with the public. The list has been released by “Fame India–Asia Post”, which is known for conducting survey of personalities concerning to political, administrative including different sectors of country.
A 2019-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, S. Maninder Singh assumed charge as SSP Rupnagar in January 2026. On assuming office, he made the delivery of clean, corruption-free and transparent police administration, along with maintaining law and order in the district, among his key priorities.
During his early career, Reviewing Board had given an ‘Outstanding’ grade to S. Maninder Singh during his training at the National Police Academy. The Board also described him as an excellent sportsperson and a dedicated team player. This team spirit later became an important part of his leadership style.
As Assistant Superintendent of Police in Mansa, he traced the double murder case in Moosa village within 72 hours. During his tenure in Amritsar South, he led an operation in which a hand grenade was recovered, three blind murder cases were solved, three minor girls who had been kidnapped were rescued, and 4.7 kg of heroin, one drone and drug money amounting to ₹67.59 lakh were recovered.
His tenure as SP Headquarters in Tarn Taran was also significant from the perspective of administrative reforms. He handled more than 100 protests peacefully and redeployed 50 per cent of the police force to field stations. The impact was also reflected in the district’s ranking in the Sanjh Kendra, where the district moved from among the bottom five to the top five. During the same period, he also crackdown a ₹25-lakh hawala-drug network.
As ADC to the Governor, S. Maninder Singh attained valuable experience in protocol and high-level administration. He managed protocol arrangements for 42 high profile official visits and important oath-taking ceremonies held at Raj Bhavan.
Another major chapter of his career came as SSP Amritsar Rural. He led relief and rescue operations during severe flooding in border villages, during which thousands of villagers were evacuated safely from affected border areas.
Meanwhile, the police continued its crackdown on the narco-terror network under his leadership, making 1,354 arrests and recovering 237 kg of heroin, ₹1.9 crore in drug money, 297 pistols and 15 hand grenades. He also worked towards institutionalising security arrangements by activating more than 800 Village Defence Committees. Freezing illegally acquired properties worth around ₹10 crore was also part of this strategy.
The police teams under the leadership of S. Maninder Singh also remained active in matters related to national security. In May 2025, Amritsar Rural Police arrested two individuals for allegedly providing sensitive information regarding military establishments and the movement of military personnel to the Pakistani intelligence network. During the investigation, it emerged that photographs of military establishments and airbases, along with other sensitive information, had allegedly been shared.
Maninder Singh’s career has also seen challenging phases. November 2025 marked an important and difficult chapter in his professional journey, following which he was appointed SSP Rupnagar in January 2026. At Rupnagar, S. Maninder Singh reiterated his commitment to deliver transparent and corruption-free police administration, a strong law-and-order framework and strict action against anti-social elements.
