Rupnagar 23 December: National Mathematics Day is celebrated in India on December 22 every year to honor the birth of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of India’s greatest mathematicians. Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887, in Erode, Tamil Nadu. Despite having no formal training in mathematics, he made incredible contributions to areas like number theory, algebra, and infinite series.
The day was declared by the Indian government in 2012 to encourage people, especially students, to appreciate the importance of mathematics in everyday life and to inspire them to pursue careers in mathematics and related fields.
On National Mathematics Day, schools and colleges organize various activities like mathematics competitions, lectures, and exhibitions to highlight Ramanujan’s work and the beauty of mathematics. The goal is to show how mathematics helps solve real-world problems and to celebrate the genius of Ramanujan and other mathematicians.
